2017 PEOC ELITE PROSPECT CAMP

Ideal for current advanced to elite level officials of all ages who are looking to improve their overall officiating skill set while seeking to showcase their skills to officiating administrators at the next level of competition.  These camps will review the USA Hockey Amateur Rulebook & Casebook, the USA Hockey Junior Rulebook, and the NCAA / ACHA Rulebook.  On-ice and off-ice conditioning evaluations will be held at these camps throughout each camp weekend. Participants will have the opportunity to officiate in front of representatives from USA Hockey's Officiating Development Program, the NCAA, ECHL, AHL & more.

CAMP OBJECTIVE

At all camp levels, the Pittsburgh Elite Officiating Camps strive to develop officials in ways that will allow each participant to achieve success at higher levels of hockey officiating. PEOC seeks to instruct basic, intermediate and advanced officiating skills and techniques necessary to establish a foundation towards that success.

 

The PEOC Elite Prospect Camp is designed for an advanced to elite level official – at any age – who is looking to improve their overall skill set while taking on the challenge of officiating a high level of hockey.  Whether your personal goal is to advance to the next level or you desire to adopt officiating as a profession, the PEOC Prospect Exposure Camp will assist you in obtaining your personal officiating aspirations.


This camp is customized for those officials who are currently working, or desire to work, high levels of hockey (Tier I, Junior, ACHA/NCAA & above) with true aspirations to advance their officiating careers.  


The Instruction Staff and guests at the PEOC Elite Prospect Camp will be comprised of invited persons currently involved in the officiating departments and/or officiating administration offices of both collegiate & professional hockey leagues.  


PEOC asks that prospective participants understand the purpose of this elite level camp and self-evaluate before making their PEOC camp selection.


During the PEOC Elite Prospect Camp, participants will participate in both on-ice and off-ice conditioning & physical testing modules.


The results of the on-ice and off-ice physical testing will be included in each participant's PEOC Individual Camp Report (ICR).  The ICR will be sent directly to officiating administrators in junior, professional, and collegiate hockey leagues throughout the country.


The PEOC Elite Prospect Camp begins on Thursday afternoon and concludes Sunday afternoon.

Thursday:  1:00 PM - 10:00 PM

Friday:  9:00 AM - 10:00 PM

Saturday:  9:00 AM - 10:00 PM

Sunday:  9:00 AM - 1:00 PM

CAMP HIGHLIGHTS

  •  Review of the USA Hockey Amateur Rule Book & Casebook.
  • Review of the USA Hockey Junior Rule Book & Casebook.
  • Review of the NCAA / ACHA Rule Book.
  • Dedicated PEOC Officials Locker Room for the duration of the camp weekend, complete with assigned stalls, nameplates, tape, and other officiating essentials,
  • PEOC apparel provided for each participant (PEOC shirts, shorts, athletic wear, etc.),
  • Dedicated classroom for the duration of the camp weekend,
  • Correspondence from leagues for review, including the NHL, AHL, ECHL, IIHF, and NCAA,
  • Multiple on-ice training sessions with referee/linesman specific drills & game simulations,
  • Individual filming and review of officiating & skating drills with instruction staff,
  • Multiple classroom sessions per day focusing on positioning, game management, penalty standard, etc.,
  • Multiple game experiences per day & video performance review from the Instruction Staff with the crew immediately following each game session,
  • Complete review and utilization of the 3 & 4 Official Systems throughout the camp weekend,
  • One-on-one Q&A sessions with experienced staff and guests,
  • Individual Camp Reports (ICR) completed for each participant.  The ICR will be compiled jointly by the PEOC Instruction Staff following the Elite Exposure Camp and will be sent directly to current officiating administrators in both professional and collegiate hockey leagues throughout the country.  The ICR will include a general assessment of each participant's camp performance, the results of their on-ice and off-ice testing and may include camp game films and/or individual on-ice session video, if requested.
  • A Camp Dinner / Award Ceremony on Saturday evening provided by PEOC.
  • NEW FOR 2017 - Multiple full-equipment games played & officiated by participants to increase ice time.

CAMP INSTRUCTION STAFF

A major component that makes the Pittsburgh Elite Officiating Camps a success with our participants is the experience & knowledge of our instruction staff. 

 

In prior years, PEOC camps have had instructors with officiating experience in the NHL, AHL, ECHL, OHL, IIHF and NCAA Division I hockey. 

 

The PEOC instruction staff has included:

The 2017 PEOC Elite Prospect Camp Instruction Staff will again be selected from top officials and officiating administrators who are currently working – or have experience in – the National Hockey League, American Hockey League, ECHL, IIHF and NCAA Division I hockey.


Other top instructors within the USA Hockey Officiating Education Program, including USA Hockey District Referees-in-Chief, USA Hockey Officiating Program Evaluation Coordinators and USA Hockey Officiating Education Program Supervisors, may also make appearances at camps.


The Elite Prospect Camp will also invite top officiating administrators from to junior, collegiate & professional hockey leagues to allow camp participants to showcase their officiating abilities.

CAMP NECESSITIES & ESSENTIALS

Below is a list of items that will be required at all 2017 PEOC Camps:


  • Full on-ice officiating equipment.
  • Off-ice warm up apparel (t-shirts, shorts, sneakers)
  • NEW FOR 2017: Proper classroom and team function attire (polo shirt & dress pants/golf shorts)
  • NEW FOR 2017: Full on-ice playing gear - including hockey pants, shoulder pads, stick, etc.

CAMP ATTENDANCE CRITERIA

All 2017 PEOC Elite Prospect Camp participants must:


  • Be an advanced to exceptional skater,
  • Be proficient at working Tier I, Junior, ACHA, NCAA and other high levels of hockey,
  • Have a strong desire to develop your personal officiating skills,
  • Have aspirations to advance to the highest levels of hockey officiating,
  • Have the ability and aspirations to learn very advanced techniques of officiating, 
  • Must be available and attend the duration of the camp.

Alpha Ice Complex is the home of the NA3HL's Pittsburgh Vengeance and the Chatham Cougars Men's and Women's NCAA Division III hockey teams.

CAMP HOTEL INFORMATION - NEW IN 2017

To reduce travel costs, 2017 PEOC participants now have the option to include discounted hotel expenses at registration. This allows PEOC participants to stay at our Elite Prospect Camp host hotel, the SpringHill Suites by Marriott, just minutes away from Alpha Ice Complex. Each participant who utilizes this added benefit will experience a lower per night cost than any nearby area hotel by assigning multiple camp participants in each hotel room suite.

Additionally, a free breakfast will be provided to all PEOC participants who stay at this hotel each morning at both participating hotels.

PEOC will provide room assignments to all camp participants. Special requests for room assignments/partners will be accepted once a participant is fully registered to attend camp.

COST: $60.00 USD/night added to PEOC registration fee, if selected.
