PEOC DIRECTORS

ZACH ROBERTS

PEOC Executive Director


Zach Roberts is the Director of the Pittsburgh Elite Officiating Camps. He founded PEOC in 2012.

Zach currently officiates professional ice hockey in the American Hockey League and the ECHL. The 2018-19 season marks his sixth season on the ice in the AHL and eleventh in the ECHL. Zach has earned multiple Calder Cup Playoffs (AHL) and Kelly Cup Playoff (ECHL) appearances. He was also selected to officiate the 2017 CCM ECHL All-Star Classic in Glens Falls, NY.

Zach also currently officiates NCAA Division I Men's hockey in the Big Ten Conference. He has previously officiated collegiate hockey in Atlantic Hockey, the Central Collegiate Hockey Association, College Hockey America and the ECAC.

In addition to his collegiate and professional hockey officiating experience, Zach was also a member of USA Hockey's Officiating Development Program (ODP), and was selected to officiate multiple USA Hockey Junior National Championships.  During his time with the ODP, Zach was selected to attend USA Hockey's Regional and National Officiating Development Camps.

Additionally, Zach is a current member of the USA Hockey Officiating Development Program (ODP) Supervisory Staff, evaluating officials at the USHL, NAHL and NA3HL levels of play. He also has instructed at numerous USA Hockey seminars and camps.

Zach is a native of the Pittsburgh, PA area. He attended Pittsburgh Central Catholic High School and earned his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and MBA from South University.

Zach and his wife Jaime reside in Irwin, PA with their son, Connor, and daughters, Riley and Reagan.

RAY KING

PEOC Development Director


Ray King is the Development Director of the Pittsburgh Elite Officiating Camps.  He has held this position with PEOC since 2014. 


Ray currently officiates professional hockey in the American Hockey League. He also currently officiates major-junior hockey in the Ontario Hockey League. Ray previously worked in the ECHL, working 700 regular season games and earning the ECHL's Birmingham Award in 2014.


Ray also currently officiates NCAA Division I Men's hockey as a linesman in the Big Ten. He has previously officiated varsity collegiate hockey in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association, College Hockey America, Atlantic Hockey and the ECAC.

Additionally, Ray is a member of the USA Hockey Officiating Program Instruction Staff and has instructed at many Mid-Am District seminars and Regional Camps.  


Ray is also a current Mid-Am District USA Hockey Supervisor of Officials and a Supervisor or for the USA Hockey Officiating Development Program (ODP).


Ray is a native of the Erie, PA area.  He attended Erie Cathedral Prepatory High School and earned his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from Edinboro University.


Ray and his wife Nora reside in Erie, PA.

FRANK BASTONE

PEOC Operations Director


Frank Bastone is the Program Director of the Pittsburgh Elite Officiating Camps. He was selected to attend the very first PEOC in 2012, and has been involved in every camp since, both as a participant and as an instructor. 


Frank currently officiates in the USA Hockey’s Officiating Development Program (ODP) as a linesman. He also officiates collegiate hockey as a linesman and a referee in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference of the NCAA. 


In 2013, Frank became a USA Hockey Seminar Instructor following his attendance at the Eastern Instructors Seminar in Lake Placid, NY.  At this camp, Frank earned the Milt Kaufman award which is given to the official who most exemplifies hard work and dedication to officiating.

Frank brings a special passion to every game he works. In his career, Frank has earned several assignments for amateur, collegiate, and scholastic Playoffs, Finals, Championships and All-Star games. 


Frank is from Pittsburgh, PA. He currently lives in Allegheny Township with his wife, Missy.

FURMAN SOUTH

PEOC Instructor


Furman South returns to the Pittsburgh Elite Officiating Camps for the fourth consecutive summer in 2019 as a PEOC Instructor.


Furman currently officiates professional hockey in the National Hockey League and American Hockey League. His previous officiating experience includes officiating in USA Hockey’s Officiating Development Program, where he worked games in the USHL, NAHL and SPHL.


Furman was selected to officiate the 2015 National Hockey League Prospects Camp in Traverse City, MI. He was also selected to attend the National Hockey League Officiating Combine in Buffalo, NY the same year. Prior to his career in officiating, Furman played NCAA Division I hockey for Robert Morris University.

JIM DOYLE

PEOC Instructor


Jim Doyle (Medford, NJ) is currently a Officiating Manager/Supervisor in the American Hockey League (AHL) and ECHL. Jim also supervises officials at the NCAA Division I Men's level for the Atlantic Hockey Association. Additionally, Jim is also a current Off-Ice Official with the National Hockey League (NHL). 


Jim is also the current Referee-in-Chief of USA Hockey's Atlantic District.


Jim previously officiated professional hockey as a linesman in the American Hockey League (AHL) and ECHL. He also has previous international officiating experience, including working the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, NY.

DENNIS URBAN
PEOC Instructor

Dennis Urban (Pittsburgh, PA) currently officiates professional hockey in the American Hockey League. He also currently officiates in USA Hockey’s Officiating Development Program (ODP), where he has experience including working in leagues such as the USHL and NAHL.

Prior to his career in officiating, Dennis formerly played NCAA Division I hockey for Robert Morris University. Dennis also had a multiple-season professional hockey playing career in leagues such as the American Hockey League, ECHL and in the DEL in Europe.

RANDY DENGLER

PEOC Instructor


Randy Dengler (Pittsburgh, PA) returns to the Pittsburgh Elite Officiating Camps for the fourth consecutive summer in 2019 as a camp instructor. 


Randy currently officiates professional hockey in the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL).  In the past seasons, he has worked full-time for the Officials Development Program in the United States Hockey League (USHL) and the North American Hockey League (NAHL). He has been chosen to officiate both the NAHL Robertson Cup and USHL Clark Cup playoffs. 


In addition to Dengler’s junior and professional hockey officiating experience, Randy has also attended several officiating summer camps including USA Hockey’s ODP full-time camp, Eastern Regional Camp, and is also a former PEOC participant. 

ZANE STOUT

PEOC Instructor


Zane Stout (Irwin, PA) returns to the Pittsburgh Elite Officiating Camps as an instructor for the fifth consecutive season in 2019.


Zane currently officiates minor professional hockey in the Southern Professional Hockey League, and junior hockey in the United States Hockey League for the USA Hockey Officiating Development Program. 


Zane also currently officiates NCAA Division I and Division III hockey in multiple conferences.

Additionally, Zane has participated in multiple USA Hockey Tier I National Championships,  He also was selected to attend USA Hockey’s Regional and National Development Camps. He is also an Officiating Manager for Pennsylvania Ice Hockey Officiating.

Lastly, Zane has been selected to officiate amateur hockey in Europe through Legacy Sports in the summer, officiating international world tournaments throughout the continent in Slovakia & Italy.

PAT JACOBS

Patrick Jacobs (Altoona, PA) returns for his third consecutive summer with the PEOC staff in 2019.


Patrick currently officiates in the NAHL with USA Hockey’s Officiating Development Program. He has officiating in the ODP full-time for numerous seasons. He has been selected to work the 2017 NA3HL Silver cup, the 2016 NA3HL Top Prospects Tournament, and multiple NA3HL playoffs.


Additionally, Patrick has been selected to work multiple Tier I USA Hockey National Championships, including the 2017 U-16 Tier I National Championship Game.

JIM WEAVER

PEOC Instructor


Jim Weaver (Pittsburgh, PA) is currently the USA Hockey Mid-American District Referee-in-Chief.  He is also currently a USA Hockey Officiating Program Supervisor and member of the USA Hockey Seminar Instruction Staff.  


Jim has also been an off-ice official with the National Hockey League (NHL) since 1994. 

GARRETT GAYDOSH

Garrett Gaydosh (Pittsburgh, PA) is a current member of the USA Hockey Officiating Development Program (ODP) and officiates in the North American Hockey League. He has previously been on the Officiating Staff rosters of the United States Hockey League and Southern Professional Hockey League.


Garrett also currently officiates NCAA Hockey in College Hockey America, the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference, and Atlantic Hockey.  He has also been selected to attend USA Hockey Regional Camp and National Camp.  


Garrett is also a member of the USA Hockey Seminar Instruction Staff and is a USA Hockey Officiating Supervisor.

USA Hockey Officiating Development Program


Keith Kaval (Erie, PA) currently officiates professional hockey in the American Hockey League (AHL).  He has previous professional hockey officiating experience in the ECHL, CHL and UHL. 


He also currently officiates major-junior hockey in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) and NCAA Division I Men's hockey in Hockey East. 


Keith also is a current member of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) officiating staff and has worked in several international tournaments.


Additionally, Keith is a member of the USA Hockey Officiating Program Instruction Staff and has instructed at many District seminars, Regional Camps and National Camps.

JOE ERNST

ECHL

Joe Ernst (Wheeling, WV) is currently the Vice President of Hockey Operations of the ECHL. He has previously worked for the ECHL as the Director of Officiating as well. Joe is currently responsible for everyday operations of the ECHL’s officiating and hockey operations departments, which include player discipline, the overall supervision of on-ice officials, oversight of rules, the ECHL Rule Book & its directives and communicating with the National Hockey League and American Hockey League on the advancement of ECHL on-ice officials.

Joe’s officiating experience includes working as a referee in the ECHL (including six Kelly Cup Finals and one All-Star Game, the American Hockey League and the International Hockey League. He was also a member of the National Hockey League’s training program and worked numerous NHL pre-season games.  Ernst was also inducted into the ECHL Hall of Fame in 2011.

SCOTT ZELKIN

USA Hockey Officiating Development Program


Scott Zelkin (Chicago, IL) is the current manager of USA Hockey’s junior officiating development program, Scott Zelkin guides all aspects of the USA Hockey Officiating Development Program, including assignment and evaluation - as well as recruitment and retention.


Zelkin has an extensive on-ice officiating background. After three seasons as a referee in the USHL, Scott went on to an officiating career in higher levels of hockey, culminating as a referee in the NHL.  In addition to working in the NHL, he has over 1,000 games to his credit in the AHL and IHL, as well as having officiated in multiple IIHF World Championships and the NCAA Frozen Four.

USA Hockey Officiating Development Program


Scott is currently a supervisor of officials with the USA Hockey Officiating Development Program which includes supervising the North American Hockey League (NAHL) and various Tier III Junior Hockey Leagues on the east coast.


Scott's on-ice officiating experience includes multiple minor professional hockey leagues, including the American Hockey League (AHL) and the ECHL.

JASON MIRICH

Jason Mirich (Pittsburgh, PA) formerly officiated NCAA Division I Men's hockey in College Hockey America (CHA) and Division III hockey in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC).  Jason was also selected to numerous USA Hockey Mid-American District Tournaments, State Playoffs, and Tier I National Tournaments. 


  Jason is currently the Scheduling Director for Pennsylvania Ice Hockey Officiating (PIHO). He has been scheduling on-ice officials for High School, College, and Tier I and Tier II Amateur hockey associations in the Western Pennsylvania Area for over seven years.

MICHAEL TREGO

PEOC Support Staff


Mike Trego (Butler, PA) returns as a member of the PEOC Support Staff for the fourth consecutive season in 2018. Mike is currently the USA Hockey Officiating Seminar Coordinator for the Mid-American District in Western Pennsylvania and West Virginia. 


Mike currently officiates high school, ACHA college and Tier I amateur hockey throughout the Mid-American District. Mike also currently serves as an Officiating Development Coach for Pennsylvania Hockey Officiating (PIHO) to evaluate and mentor younger and less experienced officials develop and succeed.


Mike has been an official for more than 30 years and worked at all levels, including selections to USA Hockey State, District and National tournaments. Mike is also a current member of the USA Hockey Officiating Program Instruction Staff and has presented at numerous seminars. He has also attended USA Instructor's Camp in Lake Placid, N.Y.
